What is a Periodontist?
The Dentist for Gum Health
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the soft tissues of the mouth and the underlying jawbone which supports the teeth. Periodontists also place dental implants into the jaw bones which act as artificial roots to replace one of more missing teeth. A periodontist must first graduate from an accredited dental school before undertaking an additional three years of study within a periodontology residency training program, to qualify as a periodontist. The primary focus of this residency training is on both surgical and non-surgical management of periodontal disease and the placement of dental implants.
In addition, other becoming a Periodontist, Dr. Phillips has continued his training and has been awarded the status of Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Fellowship in the International Team of Implantology.
